This slam poem relates to my book because one of the characters in my book has clear depression and her mom is completely unaware of it so I thought this was the perfect slam poem to relate to my book.

War Artifact

The Last Laugh

'Oh! Jesus Christ! I'm hit,' he said; and died.
Whether he vainly cursed or prayed indeed,
The Bullets chirped-In vain, vain, vain!
Machine-guns chuckled,-Tut-tut! Tut-tut!
And the Big Gun guffawed.

Another sighed,-'O Mother, -Mother, - Dad!'
Then smiled at nothing, childlike, being dead.
And the lofty Shrapnel-cloud
Leisurely gestured,-Fool!
And the splinters spat, and tittered.

'My Love!' one moaned. Love-languid seemed his mood,
Till slowly lowered, his whole faced kissed the mud.
And the Bayonets' long teeth grinned;
Rabbles of Shells hooted and groaned;
And the Gas hissed.

This discusses how it feels to be engulfed in a war, this affects my understanding of war because I never knew what emotions go through peoples minds while in war. This poem discusses many different people around one person and what this one person is experiencing.

Boy in the Striped Pajamas

In the movie "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" the story is based on the son of a Nazi German soldier named Bruno. This movie is a representation of the events that took place in World War 2, the movie shows the interaction between Bruno and a Jewish boy held in a concentration camp. Bruno discovered this concentration camp when he was on one of his adventures, immediately he became friends with the boy. Bruno would bring him food and play different types of games such as chess with him. Although Bruno was forbidden from talking to any Jewish boys his friendship blossomed into something beyond words. Their friendship nearly came to an end when his mother decided it was not such a good idea to live so close to the concentration camp and decided to leave for the city. Bruno, not wanting to leave his friend decided to enter the concentration camp, so one day he dug a hole with his friend Shmole and got inside, as soon as he entered he was forced into a gas chamber. Brunos parents then realized he was missing so they searched everywhere and finally realized their son had been killed inside of the gas chamber.

This movie is a very emotional movie that keeps you insanely interested throughout, in addition it teaches you the realities of World War 2. The movies main idea was about war but it was also about a blossoming friendship that had nothing to do with race or religion.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas relates to the real world due to how much racial conflict there actually is, many people get criticized for their skin colour and how they look and that is why this movie is a great interpretation of that.
