Teaching Kids to Kill

Connections: A connection you can perceive from this text is a social connection. A social connection is made throughout the passage by containing the idea of kids adapting the idea to kill using video games. Video games are a great source of pass time and are mainly used by boys, so if a video game can portray killing, shooting, and targeting than a kid can easily learn from that idea. Video games such as Mordern Warfare or Call of Duty contain a horrific scene for children and by children playing these games it teaches them to kill.

Challenges: A challenge you can make from the text is that video games harm the mindsets of EVERY single kid. In theory a video game can also be the basis for a lot of teaching, if it is used in the right manor. Children should not even be allowed to play these  games but teenage boys who do play theses games like my brother for instance learn the difference from mass killings and having the will to kill and it just being a video game. These video games can be used to teach that killing people aimlessly is not a joke, and it creates serious damages.

Concepts: The text is portraying the idea of that video games harmfully effect kids. I do agree on this idea because it can harmfully effect any kid and push them into becoming something that they aren't; but not all kids. The article describes many statistics and realistic dates of kids who learned about the will to kill and acted upon that will. Another key detail would be how they train their army or soldiers and how devastating it must be to witness or even go through that human brutality.

Changes: The changes that are represented by this text are that globally people should start to recognize the types of effects violence causes; mainly too children. Media is a very strong outlet throughout the world and using that outlet to pass on acts of violence or aggression is unbelievably wrong because if a child cannot watch their favourite you-tuber playing a violence based video game without feeling the need to express violence towards someone in reality then something must be wrong and the world needs to begin to get their priorities straight.

Article on War & Summary

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/ukraine-conflict-vladimir-putin-says-russia-will-not-wage-war-on-anyone-1.2949095

This article discusses the ongoing war in Ukraine, and the involvements of Vladimir Putin the president of Russia. The Russian president claims that he had no intentions of waging war on Ukraine but the debate between the two countries continues to fight. The article goes on to discuss that Ukraine is pushing for a cease fire due to how troublesome the country already is. People of Ukraine are beginning to become more anxious and afraid of what their country and lives might become; war does not only effect the country but many people’s lives as well. Russia has greatly industrialized weapons in comparison to Ukraine so the United States is considering giving Ukraine lethal weapons to help increase their weaponry. The article concludes that the U.S and other western countries have an idea that Russia may have provided Ukraine separatists with missionary and artillery to help the fight against the Ukraine government but even with these accusations Russia denies all claims.

The connection I can perceive from this text is a text-to-self connection due to my family’s history involving war. My grandfather was a part of the Sikh genocide that had happened in India, 1984. He tells me stories of all of the horrendous things that happened and how horribly terrified he actually was. My grandfather remembered the devastating destruction of one of the greatest temples named The Golden Temple and how people from his village were recruited to clean off the blood on the walls from the many casualties that were inside while the attack occurred. He went to The Golden Temple with his father and spent countless hours cleaning up The Golden Temple and mourning the loss of numerous Sikh people. This connection extends my understanding because it helps me realize that war is still a big issue and that it could happen anywhere at any time, having a connection helps you relate to a passage or article. The genocide in 84’ has never been forgotten and every year my grandpa tells us the story once again, to remind us of how lucky we are to live in Canada and not feel threatened every single day.
