This slam poem relates to my book because one of the characters in my book has clear depression and her mom is completely unaware of it so I thought this was the perfect slam poem to relate to my book.

War Artifact
The Last Laugh
'Oh! Jesus Christ! I'm hit,' he said; and died.
Whether he vainly cursed or prayed indeed,
The Bullets chirped-In vain, vain, vain!
Machine-guns chuckled,-Tut-tut! Tut-tut!
And the Big Gun guffawed.
Another sighed,-'O Mother, -Mother, - Dad!'
Then smiled at nothing, childlike, being dead.
And the lofty Shrapnel-cloud
Leisurely gestured,-Fool!
And the splinters spat, and tittered.
'My Love!' one moaned. Love-languid seemed his mood,
Till slowly lowered, his whole faced kissed the mud.
And the Bayonets' long teeth grinned;
Rabbles of Shells hooted and groaned;
And the Gas hissed.
Whether he vainly cursed or prayed indeed,
The Bullets chirped-In vain, vain, vain!
Machine-guns chuckled,-Tut-tut! Tut-tut!
And the Big Gun guffawed.
Another sighed,-'O Mother, -Mother, - Dad!'

Boy in the Striped Pajamas
In the movie "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" the story is based on the son of a Nazi German soldier named Bruno. This movie is a representation of the events that took place in World War 2, the movie shows the interaction between Bruno and a Jewish boy held in a concentration camp. Bruno discovered this concentration camp when he was on one of his adventures, immediately he became friends with the boy. Bruno would bring him food and play different types of games such as chess with him. Although Bruno was forbidden from talking to any Jewish boys his friendship blossomed into something beyond words. Their friendship nearly came to an end when his mother decided it was not such a good idea to live so close to the concentration camp and decided to leave for the city. Bruno, not wanting to leave his friend decided to enter the concentration camp, so one day he dug a hole with his friend Shmole and got inside, as soon as he entered he was forced into a gas chamber. Brunos parents then realized he was missing so they searched everywhere and finally realized their son had been killed inside of the gas chamber.
This movie is a very emotional movie that keeps you insanely interested throughout, in addition it teaches you the realities of World War 2. The movies main idea was about war but it was also about a blossoming friendship that had nothing to do with race or religion.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas relates to the real world due to how much racial conflict there actually is, many people get criticized for their skin colour and how they look and that is why this movie is a great interpretation of that.

Self-Confidence Slam Poem
Confidence, confidence is key
but what is confidence if there is nothing underneath?
We build a preconceived idea that whats underneath is nothing but...well nothing.
I'm ugly, I'm fat, I am nothing but a piece of trash
These are the injured mentalities
of all those who have injured realities
and all those who create a border to the thoughts of mortality.
Whats underneath?
nothing.
nothing, but the skin and bones I pick at until I find that idea everyone calls beautiful
and as usual I am reusable.
Because a girl like me?
a girl who has nothing to believe?
What is beautiful?
I wouldn't know, I am nothing but delusional.

Sniper Summary: Battlefield on the Home Front
It was a hazy long night in June, the streets of Dublin was left engulfed by darkness. The civil war has stretched over an envious period of time, the Free Staters and Republicans can not seem to create a truce. Both snipers seemed to have engaged in a treacherous battle to the death, that later on lead to the evidence of both snipers being brothers. The sniper began his enormous ruckus with a very well thought out plan.
The sniper had been hungry and tired for a long period of time, as he was just trying to serve his people as was the opposing sniper when altercation broke out. It turned into a fight to the death within seconds. As the sniper created his well thought out plan to trick his enemy many people became aware of the situation.
Quickly, the sniper began his plan of attack and decided to take his cap off of his revolver and place it over top the muzzle of his rifle, he pushed the rifle over the wall and pretended to be shot as soon as his enemy began celebrating the sniper took his deathly shot and struck his enemy, he then watched him fall over his wall. A bystander had came forward and stated, "I saw him take the shot and I watched the man fall all the way down before my eyes."
The sniper was overwhelmed with joy due to the fact that his plan of attack had actually worked and was completely full proof. He then decided to see the man he had just shot down. Another bystander announced, "He came down and walked towards the man and turned him over, after that it was just complete and utter surprise to him."
The sniper had went through all of this trouble to shoot down what he thought was his enemy only to turn over the bod and see the face of his own flesh and blood.
Battle on home ground is always a dangerous situation and this has definitely taught people the real effects of war and the impacts it has on families.

Teaching Kids to Kill
Connections: A connection you can perceive from this text is a social connection. A social connection is made throughout the passage by containing the idea of kids adapting the idea to kill using video games. Video games are a great source of pass time and are mainly used by boys, so if a video game can portray killing, shooting, and targeting than a kid can easily learn from that idea. Video games such as Mordern Warfare or Call of Duty contain a horrific scene for children and by children playing these games it teaches them to kill.
Challenges: A challenge you can make from the text is that video games harm the mindsets of EVERY single kid. In theory a video game can also be the basis for a lot of teaching, if it is used in the right manor. Children should not even be allowed to play these games but teenage boys who do play theses games like my brother for instance learn the difference from mass killings and having the will to kill and it just being a video game. These video games can be used to teach that killing people aimlessly is not a joke, and it creates serious damages.
Concepts: The text is portraying the idea of that video games harmfully effect kids. I do agree on this idea because it can harmfully effect any kid and push them into becoming something that they aren't; but not all kids. The article describes many statistics and realistic dates of kids who learned about the will to kill and acted upon that will. Another key detail would be how they train their army or soldiers and how devastating it must be to witness or even go through that human brutality.
Changes: The changes that are represented by this text are that globally people should start to recognize the types of effects violence causes; mainly too children. Media is a very strong outlet throughout the world and using that outlet to pass on acts of violence or aggression is unbelievably wrong because if a child cannot watch their favourite you-tuber playing a violence based video game without feeling the need to express violence towards someone in reality then something must be wrong and the world needs to begin to get their priorities straight.

Article on War & Summary
http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/ukraine-conflict-vladimir-putin-says-russia-will-not-wage-war-on-anyone-1.2949095
This article discusses the ongoing war in Ukraine, and the involvements
of Vladimir Putin the president of Russia. The Russian president claims that he
had no intentions of waging war on Ukraine but the debate between the two countries
continues to fight. The article goes on to discuss that Ukraine is pushing for
a cease fire due to how troublesome the country already is. People of Ukraine
are beginning to become more anxious and afraid of what their country and lives
might become; war does not only effect the country but many people’s lives as
well. Russia has greatly industrialized weapons in comparison to Ukraine so the
United States is considering giving Ukraine lethal weapons to help increase
their weaponry. The article concludes that the U.S and other western countries
have an idea that Russia may have provided Ukraine separatists with missionary and
artillery to help the fight against the Ukraine government but even with these
accusations Russia denies all claims.
The
connection I can perceive from this text is a text-to-self connection due to my
family’s history involving war. My grandfather was a part of the Sikh genocide that
had happened in India, 1984. He tells me stories of all of the horrendous things
that happened and how horribly terrified he actually was. My grandfather
remembered the devastating destruction of one of the greatest temples named The
Golden Temple and how people from his village were recruited to clean off the
blood on the walls from the many casualties that were inside while the attack occurred.
He went to The Golden Temple with his father and spent countless hours cleaning
up The Golden Temple and mourning the loss of numerous Sikh people. This
connection extends my understanding because it helps me realize that war is
still a big issue and that it could happen anywhere at any time, having a
connection helps you relate to a passage or article. The genocide in 84’ has
never been forgotten and every year my grandpa tells us the story once again,
to remind us of how lucky we are to live in Canada and not feel threatened
every single day.
